Web Page Design Guide
What's in a Web Page?
  • A page may be up to 8 ½ X 11 inches tall.
  • It may include 2-3 scanned photos provided by client
  • Up to 500 Words of text provided by client.
  • Up to 10 hyperlinks / email addresses provided by client.
  • A simple layout (i.e. where things go on the page)
  • Content may be inserted into a pre-designed template.
  • We design to 800 X 600 pixels (Screen size) unless otherwise agreed.
What's Not in a Web Page?
  • Graphic Design. We do graphic design, but it's not included. If you have a logo or graphic design elements you would like to include on the web page, then you must provide us with camera-ready art or better yet, digital art. It may be provided by others or performed by us on a time and materials basis.
  • Photography. If you wish for us to take photos for the website it will be done on a time and materials basis. Photography is very important and use of professional photography is highly recommended. Although we're not professional photographers, we have extensive experience with photography for the web.
  • Copyrighted Text. We do not provide the words you want to display on your website. We ask for you to give us the text and we will format and color it in a manner that is pleasing to you. We don't know your business and the words associated with it. If asked to provide text, we make no warranty as to the accuracy or correctness. We will allow for one change of the text of the website after which we will charge for any text changes given to us.
  • Custom applications or functions. If you have a special need for gathering information, such as a long form, or an online database, this work is always done on a time and materials basis. We have an extensive list of custom applications that may suit your need. Please tell us what you need it and we'll work with you to develop it.
What do you need to do before meeting with the developer?
  • Gather photos, text, artwork and other information for each page. Organize all of this information page by page before coming in.
  • Provide a list of links or printouts of websites that you like. Draw notes on any printouts about what you like. (e.g. I like the background color of this site or I like the layout of this site, etc.)
  • Provide us with a list of your color and design layout choices. This may be done by bringing in examples of web pages that you like as mentioned above.
  • Decide how many pages you need. Think of your website as a brochure that tells about you and what you do. In addition, it may be used as a sales tool.
Other important considerations
  • What is your budget? Do you have one? See our sample sites to get a feel for how much you are planning to spend.
  • Form and Function. What's most important? How it looks and feels (Form) or what it does (Function). The look and feel of a website may require many hours of graphic design to reach your objective. There is a trade off of dollars between how it looks and what it does. Decide which is more important
  • How often does the information need to change? Is it a static or dynamic page?
  • Is marketing the website in your plans? Will the website be for just your existing customers or will you be using to solicit new customers. If the latter, then plan to spend 1-3 times the cost of development in online marketing. Please check out our online marketing packages for more information.
What is a Flow Chart of your Website?

A flowchart of your website is a graphical picture or a table of content of what your website looks like. It is becoming very popular and useful in the marketing of your website to have a site map of your website online. Below are examples of each. When you are ready to discuss your website with us, please include one of the three examples shown below so that we have the idea of what pages are in your website

Site Map

This Site map shows the website at a glance. As the site grows, this will be an easy way for people to navigate the site. In the website, each word of the site map is hyper linked to each page in the website. It is a suggested page by many search engines in order to help get ranked high.
